Have you heard the news that Akram Khan will be creating a new full-length ballet for English National Ballet, Based off of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein and exploring the themes of love, rage and loss? What are your thoughts on this? There are very little details out yet, such as composer, lighting and set designer ect, but I'm very excited!

Hello, yes I did and I am pretty excited about it. Even though I’ve never read Frankenstein, the story isn’t that iconic in my country, so I’m not sure what to expect.

I utterly LOVED his Giselle, so I’m looking forward to watch another Khan’s story ballet. He proved with Giselle he’s quite the storyteller, who on top of that is able to see the well known story from different angle, different perspective, and yet reach its heart perfectly.

Also, it would be interesting to compare this Frankenstein with the one by Liam Scarlett for the Royal Ballet.

Honestly as much as I don’t really care for Tamara as a dancer, I highly admire her as an artistic director with her own, strong vision for her company.

So today I finally got to see Akram Khan’s Giselle. And… HOLY SHIT!

I wanna marry this ballet. I want to live with, have kids, die and be burried with it!

I have no words to describe how utterly perfect this ballet is. Or how the new Vincenzo Lamagna’s score with just the right amount of Adam is simply pure genius. Or how stellar the cast is.

I don’t particularly care for Tamara Rojo, but the way Khan sees Giselle and how she did it was pure, simple and real.

Jeffrey Cirio as Hilarion, bloody hell, what a character! If one Hilarion deserves to die, this was the one. And Jeffrey did such a great job.

Stina Quagebeur deserves EVERYTHING in the world for the way she portrayed her Myrtha. She was true star of the performance.

And Albert (James Streeter), oh Albert… He truly is a main character of the ballet and I will always fight for him no matter what, no matter how this version tried to make it nearly impossibly hard. (The shouting of “Albert, Christ, please, Albert! NO!” is just louder and more desperate.) He broke my heart. (And probably not in the moment you think he did.) Truly and completely. I cried like a baby at the end and couldn’t stop…

I mean… if you can, find yourself a copy of DVD and watch this thing. Seriously, do it.
